BRRR: 'Polar bears' run into Port Angeles Harbor to start off '14 [see video]
Polar Bear Dip 2014 -- Participants in the 26th annual Polar Bear Dip brave the chilly water at Hollywood Beach in Port Angeles, Wash., on Jan. 1, 2014. More than 100 dippers took the plunge with the only rewards of a certificate of participation and a sense of accomplishment.

In the photo below our video frame, that's Tim Hibben of Glencoe, Ill., emerging from the water at Hollywood Beach in Port Angeles during Wednesday's 26th annual Polar Bear Dip to celebrate the new year.

Similar chilly activities took place Wednesday, New Year's Day, around the Peninsula. See the main story on today's home page.
