SEQUIM — Sequim Health and Rehabilitation has received two top national awards.

The American Health Care Association and the National Center for Assisted Living named it as one of 77 long term and post-acute care centers nationally that earned a 2014 Silver – Achievement in Quality Award.

The award “honors select centers across the nation that serve as models of excellence in providing high-quality long term care,” according to the association.

“A team of trained examiners reviews each Quality Award application and determines recipients based on a set of rigorous criteria.

“The [association's three-tier gold-silver-bronze] award program is considered to be the most prestigious recognition of quality within the long-term and post-acute care profession.”

Sequim Health and Rehabilitation was also recognized by its parent company for being its “best of the best” nursing center in the company's western division.

Milwaukee-headquartered Extendicare Health Services Inc. presented its 2013 Cornerstone Center of the Year award to the care center at 650 W. Hemlock St. in Sequim at a reception featuring Extendicare area vice president Jared Elliot, Sequim Health and Rehabilitation administrator Edward Ebling and nursing director Christy Resser.

Only four Cornerstone awards are presented annually, one in each of the company's regional divisions. Extendicare has 19 skilled-nursing facilities in its western division.

Recipients of the Cornerstone award have met “stringent criteria related to customer service survey scores and quality performance improvement data,” according to the company.

Sequim Health and Rehabilitation has won the Cornerstone award twice in the past three years.

Extendicare has 156 care centers nationally.

“We are thrilled to have received both these awards,” said Ebling. “They were certainly due to our hard-working and caring staff.

“I am proud to lead such an amazing team who are dedicated to helping people live better.”
