Study looking for gaps in Web access on North Olympic Peninsula

By Peninsula Daily News staff

PORT TOWNSEND — A study is underway to determine gaps in Internet access services on the North Olympic Peninsula.

The Western Olympic Local Technology Planning Team — WOLTPT — needs help to determine where these gaps in access exist, and how increased speeds could help grow businesses, expand educational opportunities, access medical specialists or applications for jobs.

Peninsula input

The group needs input from residents across the Peninsula to identify places with limited or no connectivity.

Taking the connectivity or “Speed Test” on the Washington State Broadband Office website will help you determine if your service is fast enough for certain applications and allow you to report where service is lacking or inadequate.

Structure improvements

The information from this site will be used by WOLTPT to determine next steps in improving infrastructure regionally.

If you live or work in a location without the ability to connect to the Internet because there is no available service, send a letter to WOLTPT, c/o Washington State University, Jefferson County Extension, 380 Jefferson St., Port Townsend, WA 98368.

WOLTPT, facilitated by WSU Extension and funded by the state Department of Commerce, is comprised of representatives from tribes, economic development bodies, technology service providers and others in Jefferson and Clallam counties looking to expand the availability of high-speed Internet and the opportunities that it brings to rural communities.

Participation is open to all interested residents, with particular focus on western Jefferson and Clallam counties.
