PORT ANGELES — On his first backpacking trip into the Olympic Mountains, Robert Reed set out for Blue Glacier with his Zeiss-Ikon Contaflex camera.

“If I was lucky, I would come here to live at some point in my life,” Reed remembers thinking.

That trip happened in the 1970s.

Reed since has had a long career in medical research with the Department of Defense and with the University of California at San Diego.

When he retired in 2008, Reed moved to Port Angeles, where he uses his camera to capture the wet, fog-bound coastal landscapes.

“I like weather, water, mountains, skies, forests and rusted-out marine environments,” said the photographer, who through this month is showing his black-and-white images at Oven Spoonful, 110 E. First St.

An opening reception will take place Friday evening, with free admission including appetizers from 5 p.m. till 7 p.m.

Oven Spoonful's special paella will be available for an extra charge, and more information is at 360-457-OVEN (6836).
