On the day they were presented with a banner honoring their 2012 NWAACC championships, the Pirate men beat Southwestern Oregon Community College 4-0, and the women won 6-0.
The Lakers kept the Peninsula men out of the net for most of the game, but the Pirates scored all four of their goals in a six-minute stretch near the end of the first half.
Erick Urzua scored in the 33rd minute, followed by Kalei Gallarde in the 35th minute. Both goals were assisted by Ash Apollon.
Apollon then scored a goal of his own off an assist by Gallarde in the 38th minute. One minute later, Apollon set up Christian Martinez for the Pirates' fourth and final goal.
For the second consecutive game, goalkeeper Angel Guerra recorded a shutout for Peninsula.
“We had a hard time finding the back of the net,” Pirates coach Andrew Chapman said.
“Our guys did really well keeping the pressure on all game and getting shots off, but unfortunately, they just weren't really going in.”
The Peninsula (2-0, 7-0-1) men host North Idaho College at Wally Sigmar Field on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
Goalkeeper Emily Flinn had four saves to earn the shutout for the Peninsula women's team.
Bri Afoa and Shelbi Vienna-Hallam both scored two goals for the Pirates.
Both of Vienna-Hallam's goals were set up by Bronte Fitzsimmons, one in the second minute and the other in the 39th minute.
Afoa scored a 16th-minute goal off a pass from Larkyn Nelson, and scored again in the 89th minute.
Afoa also assisted on Hailey Berg's goal in the 12th minute.
Fitzsimmons scored in the 50th minute. Dominique Niedziela got the assist.
