Applications are due Sept. 30.
The council ensures public participation in sanctuary management and provides advice to the sanctuary superintendent.
“The members of our advisory council represent a vibrant and diverse body of expertise from our community,” said Carol Bernthal, sanctuary superintendent.
“Their input and experience assist the sanctuary in making well-informed decisions on how to best manage and protect our cultural and natural resources,” she said.
The sanctuary is accepting applications for the following seats: conservation (primary member) and tourism/economic development (primary member).
Candidates are selected based on their expertise and experience in relation to the seat for which they are applying, community and professional affiliations, and views regarding the protection and management of marine resources.
Applicants who are chosen as members or alternates should expect to serve three-year terms.
The advisory council consists of 22 seats with 42 primary and alternate members.
They represent a variety of public interest groups, state and federal agencies, and tribes.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration oversees the sanctuary.
