JOHN NELSON’S LIVE MUSIC COLUMN: Make the most of summertime muse

I CAN’T BELIEVE July’s practically gone and August is on its way.

I hate to be the one to say it, but summer will be gone before we know it, so make the most of it.

This week, you’re sure to find something to tickle your fancy music-wise here on the beautiful North Olympic Peninsula.

Port Angeles

■ Today at Castaways Restaurant and Night Club, 1213 Marine Drive, High Country, featuring Rusty and Duke, plays from 5 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.

On Saturday, the Jimmy Hoffman Band will keep it country from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

■ Today at the Junction Roadhouse, 242701 U.S. Highway 101, Chesnut Junction jams at 8 p.m.

On Friday, the Crazy Texas Gypsies return from 8 p.m. to midnight. Cover.

On Saturday, singer-songwriter Bruce Coughlan and multi-instrumentalist Nolan Murray from folk group Tiller’s Folly play from 8 p.m. to midnight. Cover.

On Wednesday, shake your tail feather with Joy in Mudville at around 7:30 p.m.

■ On Friday at Barhop Brewing, 124 W. Railroad Ave., Locos Only plays a mix of music at 8 p.m.

■ On Friday at the Fairmount Restaurant, 1127 W. U.S. Highway 101, the Olde Tyme Country Band plays from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

On Sunday, the country jam runs from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

■ On Tuesday, the Port Angeles Senior Center, 328 E. Seventh St., hosts ballroom dancing. Wally’s Boys provides musical accompaniment from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. $5 cover; first-timers free.

■ On Friday and Saturday, Dupuis Restaurant, 256861 U.S. Highway 101, features Bob & Dave from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ On Friday, Sarah Shea and Chez Jazz perform at Camaraderie Cellars, 334 Benson Road, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

■ On Saturday, Sarah and Chez Jazz perform at Wine on the Waterfront, 115 E. Railroad Ave., from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Sequim and Blyn

■ On Friday at The Oasis Bar and Grill, 301 E. Washington St., Bruce Coughlan and Nolan Murray play from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

On Saturday, Gerald Braude plays acoustic guitar from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ On Wednesday, the Old Sidekicks play from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

■ Today at Wind Rose Cellars, 143 W. Washington St., Cort Armstrong and Friends entertain from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

On Friday, Cort returns with Strider Yocum from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

■ On Friday at Stymie’s Bar & Grill at Cedars at Dungeness, 1965 Woodcock Road, Rachael and Barry play from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ Every Wednesday, Victor Reventlow hosts an open mic night at the Sequim Senior Activity Center, 921 E. Hammond St., from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

■ On Saturday, Locos Only plays at Krush, 10181 Old Olympic Highway.

■ On Friday in Club Seven lounge at 7 Cedars Casino, Blyn, the Ron Hendee Band plays from 8 p.m. to midnight.

On Saturday, Gold Digger plays from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

On Sunday, the Stardust Big Band plays from 5:30 to 9 p.m.

On Friday in the Rainforest Bar, it’s a solo performance by Thom Davis from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On Saturday, Rachael and Barry play from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the Rainforest Bar.

Port Ludlow

■ On Wednesday at the Resort at Port Ludlow’s Fireside Restaurant, 1 Heron Road, Trevor Hanson performs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Port Townsend

■ On Saturday at Sirens Pub, 823 Water St., the bands Lady Grace, the Black Chevys and Norey play starting at 10 p.m. $5 cover.

■ On Friday at Port Townsend Brewing, 330 10th St., the Delta Rays take over the beer garden from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

On Sunday, it’s the Low Ones playing folk-rock outside from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

On Wednesday, Bound to Happen plays from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ On Saturday at the Uptown Pub, 1016 Lawrence St., the Groove Merchants play from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

■ On Friday at The Pourhouse, 2231 Washington St., LaLaLand plays in the beer garden from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. No cover.

On Saturday, Lowire plays from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the beer garden.

■ Today and Friday, Steve Grandinetti plays in the Northwest Maritime Center cafe, 431 Water St., from noon until 2 p.m.

■ Today, Steve also plays at the Owl Sprit Cafe, 218 Polk St., from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ Every Monday, Trevor Hanson plays at Alchemy, 842 Washington St., from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Area concerts

■ Today, Port Townsend’s Concert on the Dock features Locust Street Taxi from 5 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.

■ On Tuesday, Sequim’s Music in the Park Series presents the Soul Ducks from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ On Wednesday in Port Angeles, the Concert on the Pier features Witherow from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Public markets

■ On Saturday, Thom Davis plays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Port Angeles Farmers Market, held in The Gateway transit center at Front and Lincoln streets.

■ On Saturday at the Sequim Farmers Market, on Cedar Street between Second and Sequim avenues, Old Time Fiddlers will entertain shoppers from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

High notes

■ On Saturday, Olympic Cellars, 255410 U.S. Highway 101 east of Port Angeles, welcomes the Beatles tribute band Cream Tangerine for a show starting at 7 p.m.

Advance tickets are available for $13 at www.olympiccellars.com. Cost is $15 at the door.

A portion of the proceeds supports the Olympic Peninsula Rowing Association.

Also Saturday, the Juan de Fuca Festival of the Arts plans a fundraiser at Peninsula College’s Little Theater, featuring stories and songs from the Irish/Scottish duo Men of Worth. Tickets of $15 are available at Port Book and News in Port Angeles and Pacific Mist Books in Sequim.
