The Planning Commission conducts hearings and forwards recommendations to the City Council on land development actions that include preparation of the city’s comprehensive plan, which is the framework for land development within the city, and zoning regulations.
It also has the authority to approve or deny conditional-use permits and shoreline activities, with appeal to the City Council.
Commissioners, who must live within the city limit, are appointed to four-year terms, with a limit of two consecutive terms.
The commission meets at 6 p.m. the second and fourth Wednesday of each month in City Council chambers at City Hall, 321 E. Fifth St.
Board of adjustment
Three positions are open on the board of adjustment.
This panel reviews administrative decisions of the community development director concerning interpretation of land-use ordinances and grant variances from provisions of zoning ordinances when it has found that an applicant is experiencing special hardship.
Decisions of the board can be appealed to Superior Court.
The five members, who must live within the city limit, each are appointed to four-year terms, with a limit of two consecutive terms.
The board meets at 6 p.m. the first Monday of each month in City Council chambers at City Hall.
