By Peninsula Daily News staff

PORT TOWNSEND — Two persons were injured in a two-car collision accident that blocked both lanes of state Highway 116 at the intersection of state Highway 19 about 6 miles south of Port Townsend for more than an hour on Saturday.

The northbound lane of Highway 19 was also blocked by the accident.

Leonard T. Sytsma, 82, of Chimacum was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, and Lorraine A. Blair, 66, of Port Hadlock was taken to Jefferson Healthcare hospital in Port Townsend. Their conditions were not immediately available.

State Patrol officers said Sytsma, driving a 2005 Toyota Corolla, had halted at the stop sign at the intersection of highways 116 and 19 shortly before 5 p.m., then turned left to go southbound on 19, colliding with Blair, driving a 1994 Jeep Cherokee, in the northbound lane.

The Patrol said Sytsma would be cited for failure to yield the right away.

The two damaged vehicles were towed.
