Sheriff's Office deputies and a Lower Elwha tribal police officer responded to the north end of Lower Elwha Road to investigate reports of a vehicle over the embankment.
When they arrived, they found a pickup truck over the embankment near Full Moon Trail.
Adams, the truck's sole occupant, was unresponsive inside the truck. The crash occurred between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. Saturday, deputies reported.
Volunteers from the Dry Creek station of Clallam County Fire District No. 2 attempted to resuscitate him, but Adams was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash was investigated by a Washington State Patrol team that was assisted by a sheriff's deputy.
Adams retired from the Peninsula College staff in 2010.
