Clallam, Port Angeles to enter easement agreement

The three commissioners discussed the easement Monday and will consider granting it today.
The city already has moved water pipes to a mutually favorable position near the west entrance to county’s maintenance facility at the corner of Lauridsen Boulevard and C Street in west Port Angeles.
Clallam County Public Works Administrative Director Bob Martin said the city abandoned the old water line, which was located under a concrete pad.
“It’s very much in our interest to work with the city for this relocation,” Martin said while recommending the easement.
“Among other things, what it accomplishes is they’ll never have to tear up our pad anymore if they have to work on their water line.
“Secondly, they relinquished all of the pre-existing relic easements that were for roads and streets that crisscrossed our property.”
If the county ceased to use the property as a maintenance shop, the old road and street easements would become valid again.
“With this, in exchange for the easement we’ll be giving them, they relinquished forever those relic street and road easements,” Martin said.
Clallam County maintains about 500 miles of paved roads and 34 bridges.
After discussing the easement, commissioners entered into a closed-door executive session to discuss pending and threatened litigation at the request of the Clallam County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
No action was taken after the hourlong session.
Meanwhile, commissioners Mike Chapman, Mike Doherty and Jim McEntire will be the featured speakers at the Port Angeles Business Association’s breakfast meeting at 7:30 a.m. today.
The meeting will be held at Joshua’s Restaurant, 113 DelGuzzi Drive, Port Angeles.
There is a $2.16 minimum charge for those who do not order breakfast.
