Clallam County commissioners approve new contract with EDC

By Peninsula Daily News staff

PORT ANGELES — Clallam County commissioners have authorized a $30,000 contract with the Economic Development Council for 2014.

The three commissioners heard an end-of-the year briefing Monday from outgoing EDC Executive Director Linda Rotmark and discussed next steps for the county's involvement with the council.

“It's good when there's a transition in leadership,” Commissioner Jim McEntire said, “to be introspective for a time, take a look at our strategy, how we're executing it, and at least, at a very rock bottom minimum, revalidate it.”

The county approved $30,000 contracts with the EDC in each of the past five years. The money for the 2014 contract was included in the county budget.

“I'm an advocate of executing that contract, even in the midst of all these ongoing discussions about strategy, about how to execute that strategy,” said McEntire, who is also an EDC board member.

“At the very minimum, I think there needs to be somebody that answers the phone, that attends to all the grant deliverables and so on and so forth.”
