Entry forms are available at the Symphony Office, 216 N. Laurel St., and at portangeles symphony.org.
Entry fee is $10 for the Young Artist Competition and $5 for the Junior Young Artist event.
Registrations for both are due Dec. 1.
The event will be held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 E. Lopez Ave., on Saturday, Jan. 25.
The Young Artist Competition is open to any North Olympic Peninsula instrumental music student who will be younger than 22 by June 1, 2014, and who did not win first prize in the 2013 competition.
Winners from prior years are eligible to compete.
The Junior Young Artist Competition is open to those in ninth grade or below who have not competed or applied for the Symphony's Young Artist Competition or won first prize in the 2013 Junior competition.
Competitors are to perform a selection of music of concert quality.
This selection need not be a concerto, and performances should not exceed 10 minutes.
Competitors must provide their own piano accompanist for the competition. Only piano accompaniment is permitted.
Competitions will begin at 9:30 a.m., and applicants should arrive 10 minutes prior to their performance.
Participants must perform at the event; no videotapes or DVDs are allowed.
Results will be emailed to competitors the afternoon of the competition.
The first-place winner of the Young Artist Competition will receive $500.
An anonymous donor has contributed $250 for second place.
The Junior Young Artist Competition winner will receive $250, with second place earning $125.
Participants may be asked to perform at an orchestra concert or event.
