The spirit of the holiday season has begun in Clallam County.

Above, Dutch Draper, 3, of Sequim talks to Santa Claus, who resembles Joe Borden of Sequim, after the Jolly Old Elf arrived on a horse-drawn wagon in downtown Sequim on Saturday.

In the photo accessible by clicking on the camera icon, Gage Jackson, 14, left, and Joshua Bursine, 13, both of Port Angeles, read “'Twas the Night Before Christmas” during tree-lighting ceremonies in downtown Port Angeles later Saturday.

Both downtown business districts offered longer hours, special sales and refreshments Saturday — including the arrival of Santa in Port Angeles around dusk.

Retailers who held sales Friday said business was better than it was during last year's proverbial Black Friday and were planning to continue their pricing specials through today.
