FORKS — Blue Heron Middle School sports is back in a big way.
It had been five years since a football team representing Blue Heron of Port Townsend played a game.
That streak came to an end last Wednesday afternoon when Blue Heron traveled to Forks to play the Spartans.
Blue Heron beat the Spartans 33-2.
The Herons will try to get a winning streak going for the first time in five years when they host defending champion Stevens Middle School of Port Angeles this Wednesday on their home field at Blue Heron starting at 4 p.m.
Against Forks, the Herons took the early lead on a 30-yard pass from Deitrius Kelsall to tight end Jacob Boucher.
Kelsall added the extra point.
On the next possession, Kelsall hit Domenick Zack with a 50-yard pass to add six more points for the Herons, and Carson Marx added the extra point.
The Herons’ defense held the Forks team to one first down and 20 total yards of offense in the first half.
On the Herons’ third possession of the game, Marx ran for a 35-yard touchdown, and Kelsall added the extra point.
Forks blocked a late second-quarter punt that rolled out of the end zone for a safety, which would be its only points scored.
The second half started with Isaiah Mason intercepting a pass and returning it for a score.
Later, Zack ran 70 yards for the final score of the game.
Zack finished with 205 yards rushing and 110 receiving while Kelsall passed for 280 yards.
Marx rushed for 75 and had 90 yards receiving before leaving the game in the third quarter with an injury.
The defense, which held Forks to 40 yards total offense, was led by the line of Kaiden Parcher, Jacob Massie, Cody Mclain, Brennan LaBrie and Jacob Boucher, linebackers Jonathan Smith, Zack and Kelsall, and cornerbacks Berkley Hill, Mason and Marx.
The Blue Heron offense, meanwhile, earned 625 yards of total offense.
The offensive line for the Herons were led by center Jackson Foster, Smith, Mclain, Parcher and Massie.
