About 50 of the animals have been spotted via satellite tracking data in the narrow strip of woods between Highway 101 and the Olympic Discovery Trail just east of Whitefeather Way. That's about where U.S. 101 leaves the Sequim bypass area and begins its winding route along the toe of Sequim Bay.
The Clallam County Sheriff's Department, which issued the warning, notes that motorists should beware of flashing yellow elk-warning signs that are installed in either direction of U.S. 101 east of Sequim.
