This past Thursday evening, one of God's great treasures slipped into the loving arms of her Savior. Evelyn Nelson would have celebrated her 99th birthday this Sunday, August 30.

Evelyn Aletta (Ask, Thompson) Nelson was born August 30, 1910, to Lauritz and Anna Ask, her father an immigrant from Norway. She was one of nine children and was born at Gonvick, Minnesota.

Evelyn's strength and determination were characteristics learned while working rigorously on her farm in Minnesota for her first 70 years.

She then joined her daughter, Elaine, in the Port Townsend area, where she spent her final 29 years.

She was married to Elmo Thompson for 28 years until he passed away; she then was married to John Nelson for 17 years until his passing.

Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Elaine Thompson Hall, and Elaine's husband, Cecil, of Port Ludlow; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

The five grandchildren are Pam Kroulik, Kathy Lemelin, both in Minnesota, Doug Bruneau of Port Townsend, Jonette Bruneau of Sumner and David Bruneau in Cottage Grove, Oregon.

Evelyn's great-grandchildren are Dana (Kroulik) Cowling of Port Hadlock, Deanne Kroulik and Michelle Kroulik in Minnesota, Chantelle Bradford of Danville, Alabama, Elana Johnson, Beaufort, North Carolina, Josiah, Marie and Isaac Lemelin of White Earth, Minnesota, and Morgan Bruneau of Port Townsend.

Evelyn also has one remaining sister, Myrtle Segretti of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and a brother, Francis Ask, and his wife, Irene, of Glenwood, Minnesota.

Evelyn's Birthday Celebration and Homegoing will be held at Grace Christian Center on Sunday afternoon, August 30, at 12:30 p.m. at 200 Olympic Place in Port Ludlow.
